Matt taught himself to play the guitar with the aid of The Beatles Complete songbook at the age of 10.  

He formed his first band whilst still at school, playing his first gig in 1991.  

Later at University in Liverpool, he formed another band Cotton, which counted both Clint Boon and Janice Long as fans.  

After sometime without playing music, he became a founder member of ROTF.
